Weaving is the single highest-skill, highest-reward mechanic in Gakuran. Players who weave well beat players with better styles and more time in the game, because every dodged swing hands them a free combo. This page covers the timing, how to bait swings, and how to turn defense into damage.

The timing

Hold Space + a movement key (confirm your bind on the controls page) the instant the enemy's attack animation begins. Too early and you recover before the hit arrives; too late and you eat it. The rhythm is reactive — watch their hands, not your own cooldowns. Drill it in low-stakes fights until it's muscle memory before taking it into gang brawls.

Baiting swings

Good players don't wait passively to weave — they provoke the swing. Step just inside range, threaten a punch, then weave the panic attack that comes back. Once you've conditioned an opponent to swing when you step in, you control the entire fight: every approach becomes a free punish.

Turning a weave into damage

A weave is only worth it if you punish. The moment you slip a swing, they're in recovery — immediately start punch → punch → slam → stomp. Don't admire the dodge; the window is short. Defense without a follow-up just resets the fight.

Common weaving mistakes

• Weaving on a timer. Dodging on cooldown instead of on reaction whiffs against anyone patient.
• Not punishing. A clean weave with no follow-up combo wastes the whole advantage.
• Backing off after the dodge. Retreating lets them reset; step in and punish instead.
• Weaving in green zones. Stance is disabled indoors — your dodge won't work there at all.
