Every reliable Gakuran combo: the core punch-punch-slam-stomp route, how to open into it, and what to do after the knockdown. Works on all fighting styles.
Gakuran's damage comes from one dependable chain plus the discipline to finish it. This page breaks down the core combo, how to open into it, and how to behave after the knockdown so you keep your advantage instead of trading it away. If you're new, master this single route before worrying about style-specific flourishes.
The combo only lands if you start it safely. The cleanest openers are off a weave punish (bait a swing, dodge, then punch ×2) or off a dash-in that closes range before they react. Walking straight in and throwing the first punch into a ready opponent is the most common way the combo gets interrupted — see weaving for the timing.
Once you stomp, you're back to neutral with a lead. Resist the urge to instantly mash another combo into their wake-up — experienced players throw a "get-up" swing that beats a greedy re-engage. Step back half a beat, let them whiff, then start the next combo from a weave. Against multiple enemies, take the stomp and reposition rather than committing to a long string.
The route is universal, but the feel differs: Boxing chains the opening punches fastest, Muay Thai can start it from slightly longer range, and Hakari swaps the finish for flashier (and riskier) enders. Details on the fighting styles page.
Part of the Gakuran combat guide. Pair this with weaving & parrying.
The reliable bread-and-butter is punch → punch → slam → stomp: two punches to stagger, a slam to knock down, and a stomp for free grounded damage. It works on every fighting style and is the first thing to drill.
Always finish with the stomp before they get up. Don't chase a second full combo immediately — reset to neutral, bait their wake-up swing, then re-engage.
